Values and Ethics at Tide
Tide’s mission is to save time and money for people who work for themselves, so that they can get back to doing what they love, running their businesses.
Small and medium sized companies are the lifeblood of the UK (and world) economy, and so we want to do all we can to support them and help them to grow. That’s why Tide was built solely for the small business and self-employed market, with every feature optimised for people running their own company.
Our passion for supporting these businesses is at the centre of all we do, it drives our business ambitions, our values and our ethics.
We believe that it’s important that as a society we are mindful of the businesses we deal with everyday and that we understand who they are and what they stand for, so we want to make sure Tide’s values, ethics and the way we do business are communicated loud and clear.
In this blog we’ve addressed some of the topics we find our members care about the most.
What happens to your funds?
Tide provides business current accounts to our members, and when our members deposit money into a Tide account their funds are held in a secure account. This account is not used for any type of investments therefore your money is safe.
Tide does not invest member funds our own proceeds in any other way.
Where do we stand on sustainability?
We are committed to being as environmentally sustainable as possible. We aim to ensure we are being as responsible and sustainable as possible within our office, and will be making the packaging our cards are delivered in 100% recyclable by the end of September. We also keep paper communications to a minimum.
What are our key values?
At Tide, the values we live by everyday are to put our members first, work as one team and be data driven. These values are key to every decision made and the way each of us goes about our daily work.
Putting our members at our heart: We connect with our members regularly to understand their needs and how they are feeling. We ask how they are using the product, what more we could offer them, and about any challenges their business is facing. This helps us to improve our products and build new ones to make Tide as useful as possible for our members, as well as ensuring we’re producing the right content, putting on the right events and engaging with our members in the correct way.
We champion our members, giving them a boost wherever we can. For example, through our Member Spotlight series we shed light on small businesses from all walks of life, including an eco-friendly florist, a recruitment platform promoting gender balance, and an eco-cushion cover designer. We partner with our members as suppliers to Tide wherever we can, and support our member charities where possible, we recently raised money for Human Dignity Trust during our Pride at Tide month.
Tide is also a big supporter of women in business, committing to supporting 100,000 women in starting their own business by 2023. We’re doing this through providing advice and information, access to experts and mentoring amongst many other initiatives. Find out more about how we support women in business.
Valuing our team and working together: We work collaboratively to take action and deliver results for our members.
And we look after our team, with benefits including enhanced parental leave, private healthcare, and dedicated mental healthcare – with access to 24/7 support. Our staff also have the opportunity to take time off each year for voluntary work, and have their own budget for professional development.
Being driven by data: We make all business decisions based on insights derived from data. This serves to ensure we are working logically, have considered all options, and importantly, it allows us to have a democratic workplace. We proactively share and democratise data and information, meaning anyone, no matter their position, can challenge a decision and put forward an alternative.
We are dedicated to being an ethical business: obsessed with serving our members and being true to our values. If you have any questions about our values or ethics, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our member support team: hello@tide.co.
